Preschool Activity: "F" is for Fireworks

I'm a big advocate for using and re-using what you already have. In my Valentines theme box, I had red streamers left. From our Father's Day theme we had blue streamer left. We tore off pieces of the streamers and pinched them into little balls. The children took turns squeezing glue onto the large letters and pressing down their balls. This activity reinforced the letter "Ff" we were working on, and gave them and opportunity to work on their fine motor skills. You'll see these several times throughout my themes as I find it's one good way to evaluate which of my children still need more fine motor skill activities.

See a snapshot of some pieces below. Which ones would you say could use more fine motor skill activities?

  1. this is such an awesome idea. I can't wait to use it in my preschool We do textured letter and this would be awesome for that. Plus we started this new program during summer school that I am going to incorporate into this next school year called "I'M MOVING, I'M LEARNING" by choosy kids. Its a great movement exercise.

  2. i would say the third one in the top row. unless the child was not interested in the project. if that is the case, then it would be the first one in the top row.

    get idea!!! :-)

  3. @Tina, I'm glad you like it...I usually incorporate this activity once a week. It's not just awesome for fine motor but perfect busy work when I have to clean.

  4. @Anonymous, great assessment. That child had his right arm broken and had a cast for 6 weeks. During that time he was unable to use his hand and began to do all of his work with his left hand. He has had some issues getting his fine motor skills back. Beyond that, he chats a lot and needs prompting to stay on task so he'll finish.
